WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX? Put feet up, eat chocolate (when not dieting) and read the gossip mags.
WHY DID YOU START WEIGHT TRAINING/WHEN? I used to do 2 aerobic classes a day but still didn’t look the way I wanted to. One day I was late for aerobics, so I did weights instead which got me talking to a girl who competed in lightweight bodybuilding. I went to watch a few competitions and thought “if they can do that, then so can I”. I started weight training in about 1990.
WHERE DO YOU TRAIN? Empire Fitness Centre – where I also work. It has a great atmosphere and heaps of competitive bodybuilders, figure and fitness competitors. When there are people getting ready for competitions there, it really motivates you.
DO YOU HAVE A TRAINING PARTNER? On and off
TYPICAL TRAINING WEEK:
MONDAY >> chest, triceps and abs
TUESDAY >> back and biceps
WEDNESDAY >> rest
THURSDAY >> legs
FRIDAY >> shoulders and calves
I always do 3 working sets, aiming for 10-12 reps.
ANY TECHNIQUES USED? I always make sure I use correct form and feel the muscle I’m working. My motto is “it doesn’t matter how much you lift – it’s how you look”.
FAVOURITE EXERCISE: Side lateral raises – if I could only ever do one exercise it would be that – as it gives you shoulder width.
LEAST FAVOURITE EXERCISE: Any chest exercise
THE ONE EXERCISE EVERYONE MUST DO: Side lateral raises
BEST/BIGGEST LIFT: I have no idea
BEST BODY PART: Shoulders
ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO IMPROVE? Legs/glutes (and more fullness when dieted down).

MOST MEMORABLE COMPETITION MOMENT:
1996 – winning the overall Australian championships – as a lightweight competitor (competing at 52 kg), I never dreamed I would beat the middleweight and heavyweight winners. This was the last year the overall was held.
WHAT SUPPLEMENTS DO YOU USE? Max’s STP protein powder & Horley’s Awesome Whey (taken as listed above), Musashi Creatine, Glutamine, & Yellow (aminos). I take these supplements as follows:
With breakfast – 1 tsp Creatine, 1 tsp Glutamine, 1 tsp Yellow. Before training - 1 tsp Creatine, 1 tsp Glutamine, 1 tsp Yellow. After training - 1 tsp Creatine, 1 tsp Glutamine, 1 tsp Yellow. In the last 2 weeks before a show I also add 1 tsp Musashi Yellow in-between meals.
FAVOURITE DIET FOOD: Rice crackers
WHEN DIETING IS FINISHED WHAT IS YOUR ALL-TIME FAVOURITE TREAT? Chocolate
FAVOURITE DRINK:
Midori Illusion
WHO DO YOU ADMIRE MOST IN YOUR SPORT? As a bodybuilder – Lenda Murray for her unbeatable rounded delts. As a figure competitor – Monica Brant as she always looks gorgeous onstage and keeps competing even after constant second and third placings in shows.
WHO DO YOU ADMIRE MOST OUTSIDE YOUR SPORT? Pat Rafter – down-to-earth, a gracious winner and loser, who gives a lot to charity.
WHO HAS HAD THE MOST IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE AND HOW? My husband Lee. He has made me more dedicated to my sport and in most aspects of my life. I admire the fact that everything he does, he does to his best ability and doesn’t quit.
HOW HAS WEIGHT TRAINING AFFECTED YOUR LIFE AND SPORT? It has taught me discipline and gives me a feeling of achievement.
GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS FOR YOUR FUTURE IN YOUR SPORT: Win the IFBB Australian Figure Championships (I like to take one show at a time).
HOPES AND AMBITIONS FOR YOUR PERSONAL LIFE: Be happy and healthy.
THE BEST TIP YOU COULD PASS ON TO SOMEONE STARTING OFF IN YOUR SPORT: Train consistently and get your diet right by talking to someone experienced in the sport as you can waste years not getting results because your diet is lacking. I believe 90% of your results come from your diet.
ADVICE FOR THOSE WANTING TO COMPETE: If you can’t handle losing – don’t bother competing (there is nothing worse than a sore loser).
IF THERE WAS ANYTHING YOU COULD CHANGE OR IMPROVE ABOUT YOUR SPORT WHAT WOULD IT BE? More general public acceptance
ANYONE YOU WOULD LIKE TO THANK: My husband Lee and everyone at Empire Fitness Centre

7.00am >> porridge oats, protein shake 10.00am >> protein shake, rice cakes/rice crackers
1.00pm >> chicken breast or fish and rice or potatoes 4.00pm >> protein shake or chicken breast
7.30pm >> chicken and large salad 10.00pm >> protein shake
