June 2013Brock Lesnar
BY SEAN HYSON // PHOTOS DUSTIN SNIPES
“Life is all about timing,” says Brock Lesnar. “The first time I was with the WWE [Lesnar debuted in 2002], I was restless. I wanted to continue my career athletically and spread my wings a little bit.” The 6'3" 290-pounder made an impact on sports entertainment from the beginning, winning the company’s top prize and having memorable feuds with the Rock and John Cena. But his pedigree in real wrestling left him with a competitive hunger he couldn’t satisfy in a world where contest outcomes were predetermined. Lesnar left the company to fulfil a childhood dream of playing pro football. He joined the Minnesota Vikings but was cut in the pre-season. Lesnar then wrestled in Japan for two years, winning a heavyweight championship.

Nutrient Timing
BY ANTHONY L. ALMADA // PHOTOS COURTESY OF PHOTODISC
The concept of nutrient timing—arranging your intake of proteins or carbs around an intense bout of training to maximise performance or adaptation—makes sense: burn fuel, break down muscle protein then replace fuel and provide components
to rebuild proteins. Maybe load some extra performance goodies.
Many books and articles have been written on the subject, but does it actually work? Unfortunately, it seems few are willing to ask that question. Many nutrition information peddlers and genuine experts cling to nutrient timing like politicians toeing the party line in election year. They base their ideas on what others say rather than hard evidence.
